During Your Appointment
Each microblading session takes approximately 2 — 2 ½ hours in duration. When you arrive I will have some paperwork for you to fill out to ensure there are no medical or other complicating issues that will prohibit performing the procedure. I will happily answer any questions you may have about the procedure and chat for a few minutes about your brow goals. Once we are both ready to begin, I will start with taking some “Before” pictures of your brows. The next step in the process is where I will prep your skin with topical anesthetics. This is a mildly uncomfortable aspect of the procedure that feels similar to tweezing hairs (I am “pricking” the area across your brows to open up the skin so the anesthetics can absorb into the skin). This only takes 1 – 2 minutes at most, and for the vast majority of clients is completely tolerable and not a big deal. Next I will apply the anesthetics and let you sit for 20-30 minutes so they can do their job to ensure that your eyebrow area will be comfortably numb during the procedure. Once you are numb, I will customize the cosmetic tattooing pigments to match your current eyebrow color. I will then design your new brows with a pencil based on your desires and the natural structure of your face to find the most flattering shape. I will work with you until you are 100% happy with the design. Once you are, I will begin implanting the hairstrokes with the microblading tool. There will be several passes of hairstrokes across each eyebrow, depending on required density. After the first pass I will soak your brows in pigment for 10 minutes to aid in retention. Once we are near the end of the procedure, I will show you your new brows and ask if you see anything that needs to be tweaked. Once both you and I are completely satisfied with the hairstrokes, I will saturate your new brows in the pigment for another 10 minutes to reinforce maximum absorption. Once complete, I will clean up your brows and take the “After” pictures. The last step is to apply a cream on your brows that serves as a “liquid band-aid” to provide extra protection for the first two days of healing.
After Your Appointment
A common question and concern is what to expect during the healing process. Since every person is different it is impossible to say exactly what your experience will be. So many factors affect the result, including your body chemistry, physical health, skin condition and lifestyle choices. With that said, there is a general experience that seems to cover most people. As shown in the stages of healing collage below, you can expect to have darker/bolder brows immediately following the procedure. Over the next few days they will intensify and thicken a bit as a scab forms. The scab will naturally exfoliate over the next week or so and once it’s completely gone, your brows will be much lighter and look buried under the skin. Over the next several weeks as the skin cells regenerate your hairstrokes will clarify and come back darker. Around the 6 week mark you are considered fully healed and can return for your touch up, which is required to perfect and reinforce the hairstrokes from the first session. Though a third session might be required for some people, two is generally enough to complete the process. At this point, you are welcome to enjoy your newfound brow freedom and come back for a color boost at your preference (typically once every year).
